Comparison
Kexo vs Yazio
Yazio is the stronger choice for a polished European food diary with fasting tools and recipes. Kexo takes a different approach: log dinner in chat, then use the full week to find what is helping and what is getting in the way.
Last reviewed September 4, 2026. Author: Jozef Toth. This is not a paid comparison, and Yazio did not review it.
What both apps do
Both apps track what you eat and give you a daily calorie target. Both can read a barcode, and both can estimate food with AI. Yazio added AI food tracking in 2025. In Kexo, a photo has been part of the chat from the start. Neither app provides medical care.
Yazio describes its product on yazio.com. Its language list is on its help page. Kexo explains how the weekly target moves on Adaptive expenditure.
Where they differ
| What | Yazio | Kexo |
|---|---|---|
| How you log | Diary first: search, scan a barcode, or choose a recent food. Built to be fast if you like working through a list | Chat first: text, photo, voice, or barcode. Searching a food database is not the main way you log |
| Food list | Strong coverage of German, Austrian, and Swiss store brands. You can choose a country database. Czech is on the language list; Slovak is not | An estimate from what you type or photograph. Slovak is one of the product’s main languages |
| Calorie target | A plan from your goal. Activity can sync in. Fasting timers sit next to the diary | A starting estimate, then a weekly update from what you logged and how weight moved |
| What you get besides the number | In-house recipes, fasting plans, food ratings, and charts. Pro unlocks more of these features | A coach that reads the week: weekends, sleep, training, gut, how you feel |
| Food photos | They launched AI food tracking in 2025, on top of a diary. Barcode is still the reliable camera use | A photo is one way you talk to the coach. You can edit the result immediately |
| Languages / company | German company in Erfurt. About 20 languages. Their published Europe list has no Slovak | English and Slovak. Sparkclrt s.r.o., Banská Bystrica |
Where Yazio is better
- A mature European food diary. Clean, fast, and strong on German grocery brands. If that is the experience you want, start there.
- Fasting and recipes. Timers, 16:8 plans, and its own meal ideas. Kexo is not a fasting app or a recipe book.
- Time in market. Yazio reports 100 million users and 20 languages. Kexo does not have that reach.
- Czech in the app. If Czech is enough for you, language is not a reason to leave.
When Kexo is the better fit
- You will not keep logging in a food diary for six months, but you will text or photograph dinner.
- You do not want fasting timers and a recipe catalog. You want a coach to show you where the week went off track.
- You want the weekly target to move from what you actually logged and how the scale moved, not only from the starting number.
- You want Slovak in the product rather than using Czech or English as the closest option.
What we are not claiming
- We do not claim a photo or chat estimate is more accurate than Yazio’s food list. We have not run that comparison.
- We do not claim a measured accuracy figure for either product.
- We do not claim Yazio is “just a pretty MyFitnessPal.” Its fasting tools and recipes are meaningful parts of the product.
- We do not claim Yazio has no AI. It announced AI food tracking in 2025, but the diary remains the center of the product.
