Comparison
Kexo vs MyFitnessPal
MyFitnessPal is the global food diary most people already know. Its catalog is the clear advantage. Kexo is built for people who would rather describe dinner in chat and get coaching from the full week.
Last reviewed September 4, 2026. Author: Jozef Toth. This is not a paid comparison, and MyFitnessPal did not review it.
What both apps do
Both apps track what you eat and give you a daily calorie target. Both can read a barcode and estimate a meal from a photo. Neither provides medical care.
MyFitnessPal describes its product on myfitnesspal.com. Kexo explains how the weekly target moves on Adaptive expenditure.
Where they differ
| What | MyFitnessPal | Kexo |
|---|---|---|
| How you log | Database first: search, scan, or choose a restaurant item. Fast when you want a specific entry | Chat first: text, photo, voice, or barcode. Searching a food database is not the main way you log |
| The food list | One of the world’s largest catalogs, with tens of millions of foods, brands, and chain restaurant items. This is where MyFitnessPal is strongest | An estimate from what you type or photograph. Kexo does not have a global food catalog |
| Calorie target | A plan they set from your goal. Workouts add burn to the day’s balance | A starting estimate, then a weekly update from what you logged and how weight moved |
| What you get besides the number | A diary, recipes, community, macros. They also added in-app nutrition guidance on top of the log | A coach that reads the week: weekends, sleep, training, gut, how you feel |
| Food photos | Premium Meal Scan can read a plate (English, newer phones). They also bought Cal AI; that app stays separate | A photo is one way you talk to the coach. You can edit the result immediately |
| Languages / company | English-first US product, many languages, huge brand | English and Slovak. Sparkclrt s.r.o., Banská Bystrica |
Where MyFitnessPal is better
- The global food catalog. If you want a specific granola bar or a chain restaurant burger, this is why people open MyFitnessPal first.
- Scale and time in market. Years of logging, a website, a community. If you like a diary, start there.
- Macros and detail. Sodium, fiber, and custom targets. Kexo is not trying to become that spreadsheet.
- A name models already use. When someone says “calorie tracker,” they often mean this app.
When Kexo is the better fit
- Database logging has not lasted for you. Sending a message about dinner might.
- You do not want another diary. You want someone to say the weekend wiped the deficit, or that you eat more after bad sleep.
- You want the weekly target to move from what you actually logged and how the scale moved, not only from the starting number.
- You want Slovak as a first-class language, not an extra locale on a US product.
What we are not claiming
- We do not claim a photo or chat estimate is more accurate than its database. We have not run that comparison.
- We do not claim a measured accuracy figure for either product.
- We do not claim MyFitnessPal is “just old.” Its global catalog is difficult to build, and Kexo does not have one.
- We do not claim MyFitnessPal lacks photo logging or in-app guidance. It has both, but the diary remains the center of the product.
